Hélène Morbu distinguishes herself by her approach to ceramics. As a genuine explorer, she takes an interest in all shaping and setting techniques. Through her command and perception of the material she overturns convention to create a new formal, plastic language.
In her studio, she first addresses the relevance of common objects before developing a limited-quantity collection of ceramics intended for boutiques and concept stores in France and abroad.
Her creations fit into a contemporary approach based on fundamental geometric shapes. Always attentive to the precision of proportions and detail, she designs each piece through drawing then shapes it using either the wheel or slip casting method in plaster moulds.
Guided by her craftswoman’s expertise, Hélène Morbu fashions each object with patience and precision. She uses a variety of traditional techniques (wheel, slab, mould), which she willingly rethinks or overturns by using other tools to create the object or effect she wants. Far from being forgotten, colour is part and parcel of the creation, adding graphic detail or playing on matte and glossy contrasts.
